Dr Tina Biss, a Haematology Specialist Registrar from Newcastle upon Tyne, has been announced as the recipient of the 2008 Baxter Royal College Pathologists Training Fellowship.
Dr Biss will use the award to support her in a two-year international research study on thrombosis and anticoagulation in childhood.
After being chosen to receive the award, Dr Biss said, “I am absolutely delighted to have been selected for the fellowship as I feel that my prospects of achieving a career in haemostasis and thrombosis will be strengthened by this period of formal research training. Over the last few years I have become very interested in haemostasis and thrombosis and spent my fourth year of training at The Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto, Canada, hence my interested in paediatric aspects of this specialty.”
The Baxter Business Unit Director for BioScience commented, “It’s hoped that our joint fellowship with the Royal College of Pathologists will help provide further training opportunities for young doctors who are working in this field. As a consequence, it will also support the UK haemophilia community to ensure that we have a wide breadth of experienced doctors within this very specialised area. Baxter is pleased to be able to support such an important venture and we wish Tina well with her future research.”
